Dirigo Advanced World Studies Class
The "Advanced" simply means that you will likely be headed to 'Advanced Placement' courses in your future, so the emphasis on historical content and process is different. Generally speaking, this class starts at the beginning of known human history and progresses to about the time of Columbus. That's a lot of time to cover! But, this offers a "Western Civilization" focus helpful for those courses. However, current education practice calls for more "process" learning over "content" because the internet allows information to be found so easily. We are in an "information age". The course is designed to add some basic historical "content" knowledge to give context, but also to explore processes for the use of history. Globalization and Geography, in historical context, will be the focus thanks to RSU 10 curriculum standards. Because this is a freshman class, research methods and source citations will be a significant part of the course. Library time will be essential.

Textbook assignments for our "common content" can be found below. All deadlines for reading and questioning will be outlined on the board in class and discussed daily. A homework rubric (link below) is also used to grade the work, in person, in class, as often as practical. Otherwise, this page will contain the latest available assignment outlines and some resources. However, due to constant updating and revision, old materials may linger until they get in the way. Currently-in-use portions will be up-to-date, though still subject to minor revisions as required.
