"The Men Who Built America"

Video Task:
Your task is to create a list of American entrepreneurs who have had an impact on "American Life" after the Civil War. You are going to identify these people and point out their contribution to the economic life of our country. We will be watching "The Men Who Built America" to go along with this. You will not be able to use the main characters viewed in class in your work. Those guys will include: Rockefeller, Carnegie, Vanderbilt, J.P. Morgan, Ford, and Edison.

Simply locate 10 great ideas turned into a business by an American entrepreneur sometime between 1865 and 1899. They can be born elsewhere, but their business needs to be in the US. Then, tell a bit about what they created in your own words. Give a short description of the idea, the creator and the contribution the idea has made to "American Life". The form below is one possibility for organizing your information. Feel free to copy it if needed:

George Westinghouse.
Pittsburgh inventor of the air brake but also
an electrical engineer who later competed
with Edison by embracing Tesla's idea
for AC electricity. Built generators for power plants, plus safety signals and devices for railroads; companies that still exist.
These new brakes allowed railroad cars to travel safely and stop without workers riding the cars to apply the brakes. This was an exceedingly dangerous job costing many lives each year. The technology led to truck brakes later. Goods now travel faster and more efficiently.
